The interesting month continues. Wednesday my former sister-in-law Karen [aka KT] came to AZ for vacation and I met her at the airport.
I have seen Karen once since my divorce in 1997 and that was an awkward 5 min meeting at my daughter Rachel's high school graduation. Karen was for many years my very best friend and the divorce was hard on both of us. My ex insisted/demanded that I never contact his family and to make it easier on me/on them/not knowing how to navigate those waters I just didn't. Something I have always regretted but as time went on it became harder and harder to reverse that direction. We connected on Facebook a year or so ago [just brief messages here and there. Happy Birthdays. That sort of thing] so when she told me she and her friend were coming to The Valley to visit another friend I told her I'd come to the airport to see her. Although I was excited about seeing her again I was afraid we wouldn't have anything to say or that she would be harboring hard feelings about the lost years.
Her plane didn't get in until 10pm and was late [I was early] and my anxiousness built until she walked thru the door. Although her friend was waiting near me [I had wondered if that was her] when Karen and I saw each other we both shrieked and ran toward the other. It was awwwwwwwwesome. Straight out of a movie awesome :-) and neither of us are shriekers. :-) 15 years have passed and we care for each other as much now as we did then.
Yesterday we were going to meet in Phoenix for lunch and then come back to my house for a bit before they went shopping. They ended up coming here first and, because we were all having so much fun, we stayed local for lunch and they sunned the afternoon away. Also awesome. It was so good to hear about my former mother in law and my nieces and nephews. So good to catch up with her. So good to just be with someone who knows me longer and better than most anyone on the planet. :-)
On a less than optimal note I got a needle stick Sat at work. I had been cleaning the Point of Care room and initially thought I got a staple in my finger. Upon closer inspection it was a needle that had been broken off. Sticking out of my finger looking just like a staple. It was kind of funny. Because it is unknown if it had been used and there was no source patient to test I have to have weekly blood tests for a while and they want me to take medicine daily for a month because I am considered immune compromised because of the recent high-dose steroids. Of course I am LOL I've never had a needle stick as a nurse and I'm immune compromised when it happens. Of course. Oddly, I'm not worried and I wouldn't even bother with any of this but, because it was witnessed I have to jump thru the hoops as part of my job. Oh well.
It's funny. 10 days ago if I had gotten the stick it would have upset me. A lot. Today? A tiny niggling concern of 'what if' but that's all. Any nurse would have that same niggling and she wouldn't fall apart. I didn't fall apart.
Seeing Karen this week I had a major epiphany - Karen is the same person she was 15 years ago and guess what? So am I.
So. Am. I.
:-D
